Tim Jones

 

Following a decade and a half in the art trade, at Christie’s then Bernheimer Fine Arts, I moved into the world of menswear, initially at David Evans & Co, silk printers to the likes of Turnbull & Asser, Liberty and Ralph Lauren.

 

A long-standing connection with Brooks Brothers then followed, first with two years as the head of the London buying office then seven years as the UK agent for their Japanese retail operation. Following a 3-year stint which ran from the opening of their first UK store, I established this tailoring business in 2009.

Words to ponder: ‘Remember, people only see your head and hands. The rest is made entirely of clothes so let them speak for you.’

Raymond Jones

 

During the 40 years in which he ran the London buying office of Brooks Brothers, Raymond was responsible for the sourcing of the best woollen, silk and cotton piece goods as well as finished merchandise such as outerwear, knitwear, shoes, leathergoods and a wide range of accessories. These made their way into stores at the top end of markets in the USA and Far East. During this period he knew everyone of importance in the menswear trade and developed both an exceptional appreciation of quality and an understanding of what discerning gentlemen require for their wardrobe.

 

Over time he has come to know what works in terms of styling and manufacture, what will stand the test of time and what will offer long-term value. Since retirement, he has remained involved in the business in an advisory capacity so ‘keeps his finger on the pulse’ of all that is happening of importance.

Words to ponder: ‘Over the years, I have seen many trends come and go and numerous, misguided attempts at reinventing the sartorial wheel. To this day, I believe strongly that a classic, well-constructed suit, purchased at a fair and reasonable price, is the foundation upon which any respectable wardrobe is built.
